Dark Matter
A fantasy retelling of the history of dark matter, 2019
During the planning of the 'Dark Matter' season at Science Gallery London, Laura was inspired by Vera Rubin, the first scientist to discover evidence of dark matter, and proposed an idea for a short film that would celebrate her achievements and legacy.
Laura worked with film director Adeyemi Michael to develop a narrative drawing parallels between dark matter and the unseen presence of black women in science. In the film it was significant to have her family present to portray her parents, as well as the eight brilliant women working in science who also appear, representing the generations who carry us forward. Vera Rubin spent much of her life championing for people underrepresented in science to enter the field, and an interview of hers serves as the voice-over.
